After a recent update my mouse and keyboard stopped working so I assumed it must have been the update. I had to use the virtual keyboard just to sign on. I got my laptop and started googling what the cause might be. After reading the different causes I took a good look at my Logitech keyboard and sure enough there were two keys that were sticking and causing my problem. I had to test every key to find them because it wasn't obvious. After popping the sticking keys off, and the rest of the keys while I was at it, and cleaning them with alcohol, qtips and compressed air the keyboard and mouse worked great. It's probably the keyboard. It needs to be cleaned or replaced.

I'm using a laptop and there is no numlock key. There's no such thing as mouse keys for a laptop or at least that section is missing in settings.
